Dont Let School Supplies Break the Budget

Don’t Let School Supplies Break the Budget Don’t Let School Supplies Break the Budget Don’t Let School Supplies Break the BudgetBack-to-school expenses can challenge your wallet year-round; heres a guide to keeping costs low.The cost of school supplies for your kids can add up fast, even though things like paper and pens and pencils don’t seem like they would be expensive. Maybe it’s because your son always wants to upgrade to the coolest pencil case, or because your daughter keeps losing stuff. Maybe it’s just because your children are likely taking six or seven different classes each semester once they reach high school. However, buying school supplies isn’t only a one-time expense at the beginning of the school year â€" it’s a recurring one that comes up multiple times a year. Kids may run out of supplies as the year goes on, or they may want a fresh start with new notebooks after they complete finals and projects, and get ready for another semester ahead. In order to deliver the best tips on budgeting school supplies, we talked to an expert â€" Emily Jak ubisin, a middle school teacher in Florida who has taught at Title I schools across multiple districts.Restock on Black FridayBlack Friday isn’t just for finding great deals on televisions and holiday gifts; it’s a good time to restock on items your kids may need for school.“It’s about halfway through the semester, so you’ll have a better idea of what you’ll need for the rest of the year,” Jakubisin says. By this time of year, your kids have gotten a feel for the supply demands for each of their classes. Plus, Black Friday offers steep discounts for a lot of school-related items.Ask your office manager for leftover suppliesIf you work in an office, there are probably extra notebooks and writing utensils laying around. “To be clear, I’m not condoning stealing office supplies,” Jakubisin says,   but did mention that sometimes offices are looking for ways to get rid of leftover or old supplies. Asking your office manager to tell you before throwing out perfectly goo d binders might help to snag a nice stock of extra supplies for your kids.Another crafty idea for kids who like to scribble, or to save on note-taking paper, is to bring home leftover printer paper from the office that has only been used on one side and would otherwise get thrown out or recycled. This can also work for creating drafts of projects and papers before using up the nice, blank paper for the final assignment. This tip is good for both your budget and the environment.Shop by yourselfIf your kid is telling you they need something for school, ask to see the assignment sheet or check in with the teacher to confirm it’s accurate. Then go to the store without the child to pick up the item.“Kids are easily swayed by advertisements and markup,” Jakubisin says. At the same time, children might not accurately remember what they need, or they may think they need something because other kids have it. This will lead you to spending extra on a three-subject notebook when a one-sub ject will do just fine, or buying a too-expensive calculator. When Jakubisin went went school supplies shopping with children she nannied, it was difficult to get them to stick to what they needed instead of going for all the fancy, expensive items. “Kids are usually fine if you just give them the item they need,” she says, “but they might get upset if you go to a store and you don’t buy them something they see and decide they want.”Buy golf pencilsThose stubby little golf pencils are a better deal when buying pencils for children. “The majority of kids go through pencils like crazy,” Jakubisin says. Kids tend to lose the pencils before even using an inch of them, which is a waste when a pack of 12 pencils is $2 and a pack of 100 golf pencils is just $10. You can get almost twice as many for the cost.Jakubisin says her students seem less likely to lose the golf pencils because they’re not as interested in playing with them or trying to break them. For kids who are a l ittle dismayed to get a shorter pencil, Jakubisin recommends putting “washi tape on the top of some of them to make them fun.”Reuse School SuppliesAt the end of the school year, ask your kids to bring home any supplies they have left rather than throwing them away. Then check out what they have and see if it’s in usable condition.“Nail polish remover will get sharpie off of binders,” Jakubisin says. “I do it to take off labels and reuse them.” You can also pull used pages out of a notebook and use the leftover pages. Writing utensils your children haven’t lost can be used again next year. Backpacks and pencil pouches can often be used for multiple years in a row, too, especially after throwing them in the washing machine.Be sure to hold onto expensive items like calculators. Even if one child doesn’t need it again, you can give it to a younger child eventually or even sell them to someone who does.Look to the school and local resources  This is a good tip for those who are really strapped for cash.Families can go through difficult times financially, especially if they’re struggling to pay bills or personal loans, and educators understand that.“A lot of times school districts generally tend to try to get supplies to low income families,” Jakubisin says. In her district, a back-to-school bash offers free haircuts and school supplies for families who are having a hard time fitting it in the budget. Churches also often collect school supplies, so it might be worth asking your local church if this is something they do.If you don’t know what resources your district has available, ask. Your child’s teachers will know what resources are available to you; they are well-versed on the different types of troubles their student may be going through at home and are a nonjudgmental resource that just want to help your child learn; it’s safe to reach out to them if you need some help learning what resources are available.School supplies can be pr icey and difficult to acquire, especially as your kids enter high school and take more complex classes. Hopefully these tips will help you save money throughout the year so you can put more money towards retirement, paying off debt, or just paying your overall bills. For more back-to-school cost saving tips, check out the below:Make Sense of Your Back-to-School CentsMore on How to Save Money on Back-School Supplies6 Genius Textbook Hacks Every Student Should Know

DimensionalAnalysis Why the Factor Label Method is a Life Saver

Ever lost points on a test because you forgot to write the units? Rightfully so! Numbers have no meaning without its unit of measurement. Two can be greater the 12. Three can equal one. This is all dependent on the unit of measurement being used. In your general chemistry class, you will encounter measurements of all sorts. These measurements include time, length, mass, volume, and many more. Units of measurement are used to conceptualize the magnitude of these measurements. Gram, kilogram, pound, ounce, metric ton, stone, slug, microgram, atomic mass unit, carat†¦ these are all units of measurement for mass alone. Why so many? Some units of measurement are more appropriate depending on what thing is being measured. Using an inappropriate unit of measurement may result in a number value that is too large or too small. When this happens, it becomes very difficult to wrap your head around the magnitude of the measurement. Conversion factors and their use A conversion factor is used to change the units of measurement without changing its value. On your general chemistry exam formula sheet, you will see them as equalities where on opposite sides of the equal sign are a given measurement expressed in different units: 1 inch = 2.54 centimeters 1 yard = 3 feet 1 foot = 12 inches I’m sure that if you were asked to calculate the number of centimeters in four inches, you’d be able to calculate it with no problem. If one inch equals 2.54 centimeters, then four inches equals 4 times 2.54 centimeters. Easy. Some conversions are not this intuitive. Especially when they require more than one conversion factor to get to the unit of measurement you’re interested in. The factor label method is a fool proof way to perform conversions. The science behind the factor label method First things first, the conversion factor, initially given to you as an equality, needs to be written as a fraction. What side of the equal sign goes in the numerator and what side goes in the denominator? It depends! But we’ll get to that soon. For right now, what’s important to know is that both fraction possibilities, reciprocals of one another, are valid. Why is this? Consider the conversion factor: 1 inch = 2.54 centimeters. Two fractions can be made from this: In both fractions, the numerator and denominator are equal quantities. Thus, these two fractions equal one another and both are equal to 1. The name of the factor label method game is to multiply the value you are given, unit of measurement included, by the conversion factor in fraction form. Remember how I said conversion factors do not change the value of a unit of measurement? The factor label method endorses this. The fraction you are using to perform multiplication with is equal to 1! We all know the any value multiplied by 1 is the same value. The only thing that will change is the unit of measurement. So, let’s finally get into the nitty gritty of the factor label method. Your set up will always have the following pattern: Recall that the fraction portion is your conversion factor and that it is equal to 1. We can now answer the question about which fraction we use since there will always be two possibilities. Your goal is the cancel out the unit of measurement you are no longer interested in. Whatever unit you are given to start with will guide what fraction you use. In other words, you want the unit you are given to start with to be in the denominator. In doing this, you will be left with the unit you want. So, using the factor label method, how many centimeters are in four inches? When plugging this into the calculator, divide the product of all the values in the numerator by the product of all the values in the denominator. You can think of the 4 in the problem above as 4 over 1 to help you visualize how to multiply. Some questions to ask before setting up: What units have I been given to start with? What units have I been told to find? What conversion factors have I been given to get from 1 to 2? On a typical general chemistry exam formula sheet, you’ll find a plethora of conversion factors – some of which you won’t even need. As a rule of thumb, the conversion factors you will use will contain the units you have been given to start with and/or the units you have been told to find. Keeping this in mind will prevent you from being overwhelmed by the formula sheet. The first conversion factor you use must have the units you have been given to start with because your first goal is to cancel that unit out. If the other unit in that conversion factor happens to be the units you have been told to find, you’re lucky and only need to multiply using one fraction. However, this is not always the case. The number of fractions you’ll have to multiply in your set up depends on what conversion factors are available to you. Here’s what I mean: Suppose you want to know how many feet are in 4.6 miles. In one situation you are given the following conversion factor(s): 1 yard = 3 feet, 1 mile = 1760 yards Which conversion factor would you start with? The one that has miles! How should the fraction be written? With miles in the denominator! In other situation you are given the following conversion factor(s): 1 mile = 5280 feet Both set ups got us to the same answer but provided different conversion factors to use. One required us to use two conversion factors/fractions because no conversion factor was given that directly linked the units we started with to the units we wanted. Conversions can get quite involved and require us to use three, four, five conversion factors/fractions. This doesn’t matter because you are simply multiplying by 1 repeatedly. Many general chemistry calculations can be used with the factor label method alone. To summarize, conversions that only require one step/conversion factor tend to easy but for those that requires multiple steps, the factor label method allows you to remain clear and organized. The factor label method also allows for you to always know where to at least start in a conversion. Remember, cancel out the unit you started with and go from there. Knowing where to start will give you the confidence and clarity to see where to go next. Lastly, it makes checking your work easy. Questions to ask yourself when checking your work: Did the units I needed to cancel out actually cancel out? Did I miswrite my conversion factor/fraction? Did I plug this into the calculator correctly? Where to Find Essay Topics Old Testament

Where to Find Essay Topics Old Testament Why Almost Everything You've Learned About Essay Topics Old Testament Is Wrong The prophets spoke out against the social conditions they observed and the methods by which people dealt with one another. Although there's no mention of a hell in the Bible, it is founded on a genuine place. Too frequently, Christians are merely pleased with having Christ's love rather than attempting to understand it. While of course many would say that there's a very clear illustration of God having the ability to modify morals in human history, I've found something that would not merely earn a check-mate on the problem of whether the Old Testament is just a different time frame of morals and people, but show that canon law should be questioned. Clearly it's an enthronement psalm. 1 word gives us a clearer comprehension of exactly what this verse means. It's evident from the above mentioned scriptures and the verses that will follow afterwards it's not wrong to eat all kinds of meat. The bible isn't an exception to this. It isn't something which you can do alone. So let's dig in the etymology a little. After all knowledge widens your horizon and it's good to understand what another individual's scripture talks about. The issue of evil plays a massive role in the Old Testament. It is dependent on how you're feeling about eating a specific meat or meats generally. One of many complaints against eating a biblical diet is that it isn't affordable. Both meat practices are a part of Jews and Muslim rituals of eating meat all around the world. An extra concern comes out of the glycerin that's added to make such emulsifiers. It appears that a ram proved to be an ideal substitute. The most frequently encountered problem, nevertheless, is the falsification and forgery of Wills in addition to the simplicity of destroying paper. Generation in this bigger sense is virtually the exact same as race. His work is completely free and all online for more research. It's been a very long wait, but I believe it was worth it! The brief answer is none of those. Merely a cursory glance at both of these distinct renderings begins to reveal a number of the ambiguity in translating this text. By the way, this isn't a mere failure on the portion of man. The presumption is that each individual that's born and living within this planet is a descendant of Adam. All men ought to be ready to defend themselves and their families from thugs and criminals and perhaps even false teachers that are coming in as wolves to destroy them through teachings that are only flat out wrong since they haven't studied enough to be aware of the reality. Premarital sex isn't a sin. We must work towards having honest speech with one another. In response to such ideas, this essay seeks to learn more about the use of OT prophets by addressing these aspects as depicted biblically. What follows represents an overview of critical biblical scholarship on the matter. With a wide range of inquiry feasible for Biblical studies, the student should choose the suitable foundation on which to explore their topic. Things You Won't Like About Essay Topics Old Testament and Things You Will Tin will always resist corrosion and at times it functions as a protective armor for different metals. The lyrical content is a bit less political than the prior albums. A good example of this would be tin cans because tin cans are produced from steel then to cover the steel tin is put on the inside and beyond the can, so rusting won't occur. Severe Christians can't ignore the Bible. Sin and the way that it can be atoned for. God would like you to prosper. Singing praise to God isn't only for other people to hear.

What Is Lateral Inhibition Definition and Examples

Lateral inhibition is the process by which stimulated neurons inhibit the activity of nearby neurons. In lateral inhibition, nerve signals to neighboring neurons (positioned laterally to the excited neurons) are diminished. Lateral inhibition enables the brain to manage environmental input and avoid information overload. By dampening the action of some sensory input and enhancing the action of others, lateral inhibition helps to sharpen our sense perception of sight, sound, touch, and smell. Key Takeaways: Lateral Inhibition Lateral inhibition involves the suppression of neurons by other neurons. Stimulated neurons inhibit the activity of nearby neurons, which helps sharpen our sense perception.Visual inhibition enhances edge perception and increases contrast in visual images.Tactile inhibition enhances perception of pressure against the skin.Auditory inhibition enhances sound contrast and sharpens sound perception. Neuron Basics Neurons are nervous system cells that send, receive, and interpret information from all parts of the body. The main components of a neuron are the cell body, axons, and dendrites. Dendrites extend from the neuron and receive signals from other neurons, the cell body is the processing center of a neuron, and axons are long nerve processes that branch out at their terminal ends to convey signals to other neurons. The conduction of the action potential across a myelinated and an unmyelinated axon. Encyclopaedia Britannica/UIG/Getty Images Neurons communicate information through nerve impulses, or action potentials. Nerve impulses are received at neuronal dendrites, passed through the cell body, and carried along the axon to terminal branches.  While neurons are close together, they dont actually touch but are separated by a gap called a synaptic cleft. Signals are transmitted from the pre-synaptic neuron to the post-synaptic neuron by chemical messengers called neurotransmitters. One neuron can make connections with thousands of other cells at synapses creating a vast neural network.   How Lateral Inhibition Works In lateral inhibition, the activation of a principal cell recruits an interneuron, which, in turn, suppresses the activity of surrounding principal cells.   Adapted from work by Peter Jonas and Gyorgy Buzsaki/Scholarpedia/CC BY-SA 3.0 In lateral inhibition, some neurons are stimulated to a greater degree than others. A highly stimulated neuron (principal neuron) releases excitatory neurotransmitters to neurons along a particular path. At the same time, the highly stimulated principal neuron activates interneurons in the brain that inhibit excitation of laterally positioned cells. Interneurons are nerve cells that facilitate communication between the central nervous system and motor or sensory neurons. This activity creates greater contrast among various stimuli and results in greater focus on a vivid stimulus. Lateral inhibition occurs in sensory systems of the body including olfactory, visual, tactile, and auditory systems. Visual Inhibition Lateral inhibition occurs in cells of the retina resulting in enhancement of edges and increased contrast in visual images. This type of lateral inhibition was discovered by Ernst Mach, who explained the visual illusion now known as Mach bands in 1865. In this illusion, differently shaded panels placed next to each other appear lighter or darker at the transitions despite uniform color within a panel. Panels appears lighter at the border with a darker panel (left side) and darker at the border with a lighter panel (right side). Mach Bands. Copyright - Evelyn Bailey The darker and lighter bands at the transitions are not really there but are the result of lateral inhibition. Retinal cells of the eye receiving greater stimulation inhibit surrounding cells to a greater degree than cells receiving less intense stimulation. Light receptors receiving input from the lighter side of the edges produce a stronger visual response than receptors receiving input from the darker side. This action serves to enhance contrast at the borders making the edges more pronounced. Simultaneous contrast is also the result of lateral inhibition. In simultaneous contrast, the brightness of a background affects the perception of brightness of a stimulus. The same stimulus appears lighter against a dark background and darker against a lighter background. The two bars are the same shade of gray throughout, but they appear lighter on the top (against a dark background) than on the bottom (against a light background). Shi V, et al./PeerJ 1:e146/CC BY 3.0  Ã‚   In the image above, two rectangles of different widths and uniform in color (gray) are set against a background with a gradient of dark to light from the top to the bottom. Both rectangles appear lighter at the top and darker at the bottom. Due to lateral inhibition, light from the top portion of each rectangle (against a darker background) produces a stronger neuronal response in the brain than the same light from the lower portions of the rectangles (against a lighter background). Tactile Inhibition Lateral inhibition also occurs in tactile, or somatosensory perception. Touch sensations are perceived by activation of neural receptors in the skin. The skin has multiple receptors that sense applied pressure. Lateral inhibition enhances the contrast between stronger and weaker touch signals. Stronger signals (at the point of contact) inhibit neighboring cells to a greater degree than weaker signals (peripheral to the point of contact). This activity allows the brain to determine the exact point of contact. Areas of the body with greater touch acuity, such as the fingertips and tongue, have a smaller receptive field and a greater concentration of sensory receptors. Auditory Inhibition Lateral inhibition is thought to play a role in hearing and the auditory pathway of the brain. Auditory signals travel from the cochlea in the inner ear to the auditory cortex of the brains temporal lobes. Different auditory cells respond to sounds at specific frequencies more effectively. Auditory neurons receiving greater stimulation from sounds at a certain frequency can inhibit other neurons receiving less stimulation from sounds at a different frequency. This inhibition in proportion to stimulation helps to improve contrast and sharpen sound perception. Studies also suggest that lateral inhibition is stronger from low to high frequencies and helps to adjust neuron activity in the cochlea. Sources Bekesy, G. Von. The Women Behind The Veil - 2291 Words

The Women behind the Veil In a patriarchal society were the father or the man of the household decides for the family, women are quite often forced into prescribed gender roles. This is true for the women in Iran’s contemporary culture. For this purpose, the veil, which is worn by Iran women, is often identified as a symbol of obedience, respect or modesty which is otherwise an example of an oppressed patriarchal society. Author Marjane Satrapi’s novel Persepolis, exposes the regime behind this oppression of the Iran woman and compares western cultural expectations to that of Iranian culture. Yet, even behind the confinements of the veil many women are finding ways to rebel against the Iranian society’s oppression and find their own†¦show more content†¦Ã¢â‚¬Å"The meaning and significance of the veil have been interpreted according to the social and political conditions in Iran across the history by the ruling systems in Iran. Veiling and unveiling have been used instrumentally by the governing elite to consolidate the foundations of its power. In the Pahlavi era, political and cultural tendencies to the West can be seen, which led to unveiling. After the 1979 revolution, on the contrary, the Islamic government’s political and cultural tendencies were against the West, particularly the U.S., and veiling became compulsory† (Shilandari, 2010). Iran’s history has should that the veil of women was also to show uniformity. This was meant to strip women of their identity and individuality. By definition, this was to made Iranian women appear more subservient, righteous and obedient to their husbands and to the Muslim world. To the Islamic republic, motherhood was to the best way for women to show their loyalty to the regime which was said to be their sacred duty. However, author Marjane Satrapi said this seemed more like a cultural revolution instead of one steep in religious roots. She asserts â€Å"it was 1980: the year it became obligator y to wear the veil at school. We didn’t really like to wear the veil, especially since we didn’t understand why we had to. They separated us from our friends. Everywhere in the streets people demonstrated for and against the veil† (Satrapi,

Legalize Marijuana; Annotated Bibliography Essay - 1381 Words

Annotated Bibliography on the Legalization of Marijuana Marijuana is the most commonly used illegal substance in United States and in many other countries; this is a statement that seems to be in each article that is written about the legalization of marijuana. This is a subject that has been up for debate for quite a few years now. There are many people who support the legalization of this drug and are strongly convinced that marijuana is not a drug in which one should be punished for, but rather a drug that should not be frowned upon and seen as a way to help our nation economically and medically. On the other end, there are also many people who support the criminalization of marijuana and believe it is a drug that should remain illegal†¦show more content†¦To produce different plants, genetic cross-breeding is performed, as well as using different techniques for growing the plant. The main psychoactive ingredient in marijuana, which is also the most responsible for its intoxicating effects, is known as delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC. THC is one of the cannabinoids found in marijuana, and there are over sixty of them. It is the cannabinoid that produces the high, and although there are other cannabinoids present, the effect is different with the absence of THC. They interact with THC to affect its impact in a variety of ways: enhancing or attenuating it, speeding up or slowing down its onset, and influencing how long the effect lasts (Caulkin 7). According to the authors, recent studies have shown that there is another compound in marijuana that is increasing the attention of both scientists and medical marijuana providers known as cannabidiol, or CBD. CBD is not an intoxicating product, and does not produce a high when alone, but some researchers claim it may calm the anxiety produced by THC. Some research suggests that marijuana with a better balance between CBD and THC is less risky than the high-THC, low-CBD strains that now dominate the upper end of the marijuana market (Caulkin 9). With scientists discovering the new compound CBD, it makes them more interested in doing further research in order to discover more roles of other compounds

Personal Respone on Understanding Fear - Free Essay Example

Sample details Pages: 6 Words: 1686 Downloads: 7 Date added: 2019/05/15 Category Sociology Essay Level High school Tags: Sociological Imagination Essay Did you like this example? Â  An individual of society may go through a lot of changes and experiences during their lifetimes. From the moment the person is born, society ends up playing a huge role on shaping their social interactions, their behaviors, their morals and the things that end up driving their decisions; whether it is love, education, success, wealth, happiness, or fear, among others. Moreover, although individuals experience different situations based on their social class, status, gender, ethnicity and race, there are emotions and feelings that seem to be universal, and that they are able to connect humans on another level through them, such as fear. Further on, the article that will be analyzed is about the long-standing fear of a young woman that had a traumatic adolescence due to her sexual abuse and the indifference of his own father. This writing also gets to explain in detail the roots of that fear, the context of her fear, and the understanding of her fear through various sociological perspectives and lenses, that in the process gives her a comprehension of it to make her finally heal. Don’t waste time! Our writers will create an original "Personal Respone on Understanding Fear" essay for you Create order To start, the writers purpose is accentuated since the beginning. She finds that laying out her reasons for her fear, and explaining it in various perspectives will help alleviate her pain. She was raped, unemotionally connected with her father and suffered from severe mental illness. But she wanted to know why years later in situations like choosing a university or committing to a relationship or any other small decision, there was always something preventing her from succeeding. Moreover, that is why she chose to write about it, so she can find out the why, the what, the when and the how of why she is like she is, and how to overcome her fearfulness mind, so she can continue on with her life. Virginia Wolf, once quoted: It is only by putting into words that I make it whole; the wholeness means that it has lost the power to hurt me and in the same way she wanted the hurting to stop through words, she also wanted it to transmit that to other people that might remotely feel the same w ay. Following this further, the article poses various questions that are answered through different sociological views, in both the macro and micro level. She questions why fear is a result of socialization, why is it expected as a woman, why is it interfering with her rational life choices, why is it showing in her behavior and why it is a public issue. Her point of view focusing firstly on her as an individual that is part of society, and then expanding it to the whole spectrum of society, using the symbolic interaction, functionalism and conflict theory approach, to evaluate her fear in diverse manners. The author starts by explaining fear as a result of socialization, given the experiences shes had to go through since she was very young. The primary socialization was the lack of affection by her alcoholic father, and the overall relationship her parents had that contributed to her growing up with instability and anxiety as her norm. And her second, but most impactful socialization was when she was abused at 14 and suffered in silence for a very long time in fear of the man and his possible retaliation. Altogether, instilling in her a sense of always being intimidated by something, or someone, especially the opposite sex, and constructing a social reality in which fear guides her every move, which can be called Constructivism. Constructivism is an extension of the symbolic interaction perspective, which suggests that a persons reality is developed through the interaction with others, and what humans cognitively construct it to be (Lumen). Which would explain why her views of what su rrounds her is rooted in being intimated and fearful, because thats what shaped her in a critical age in which an individual starts to build their reality. This can be exemplified by her behavior towards relationships and her lack of trust to male suitors. She firstly saw this when the relationship of her parents were affected by her fathers alcoholism, and how her mother was full of anxiety because of it. In the same way, as she grew up with a bad fatherly figure, she had no sense of what a good man should be like and it only got worse when she was also sexually abused by one. And so, the symbol of men becoming a source of anxiety in the authors reality in the process. Moreover, since a young age, women are taught to always be cautious of their surroundings, to never walk alone at night, to never talk to or receive drinks from strangers, to dress a certain way to not get assaulted, and so their realities are rooted and constructed in fear. Furthermore, the combination of the perceived fear as part of her reality, and the internalization of women always needing to be cautious as part of society is what pushes her away from something as positive as love, because she is afraid of going through her bad experiences again with the men in her life. On the other hand, as she started to understand more the where, the why, the what of her fear, she also started to understand that fear is widespread, and many individuals in a society can feel it, not only by been abused, but by million other reasons. Throughout history, fear of the other has been instilled in certain groups and has resulted in xenophobia and genocide, and in the last 20 years it has also been seen by the threat of terrorism. A huge example being 9/11 and how it forever changed the socializations of daily Americans. The writer also denotes how the news network can make people afraid of their neighbor, their partners, or even their family, overall showing the lack of trust and instilment of fear as a public issue in both the US and the world. Pursuing this further, the functionalism perspective shows that fear can also be imposed by not only events, but by politicians/elite groups through manipulating of people so they could be afraid of certain group of individuals. Resulting as a consequence, a fear of the outsider and so a lack of integration between the functions in a society. This can be seen with the clashing ideologies, cultural systems and political parties. As far as another macro-sociological perspective that goes along with the line of reasoning is the conflict theory. She proposes that fear is inherent of capitalist societies, one of the reasons being that is an economic system that only a few benefit, and one must always one and must also lose, since is based largely on competition. And so companies or entrepreneurs are constantly on tension and afraid whos going to be one that will be succeeding. At the same time, since capitalism entitles economic inequality, theres always someone that will be worse off, so others can be better off, and the fear of not having economic security can be excruciating to many. Overall, as far as what was mentioned before and my perspective, I have learned about fear in different ways that I have not thought of. Yes, I have thought a lot before about not only the small things, such as being scared of an insect or the deep ocean, but also being scared of not finding a good job or having financial security, and in the worst cases to be sexually assaulted sometime in my life. But the article broadened my horizons in how much fear can be instilled in someones life and how it can be so widespread that it affects a lot of decisions in peoples lives. It also made me think that after all fear might be one of the things that people think and feel the most; the fear of going to war, the fear of being discriminated against, the fear of terrorism, the fear of losing a job, the fear of not doing good in college, the fear of being molested, among million other things people can think of throughout their lifetimes. This has also worked to give me an insight that my fear to a certain situation can also make me think that Im not alone in feeling this way, and just by the fact that so many people share this me, makes me feel I can count on people, I can lean on people and I can connect with them. And at the end of the day, that link you have with people makes you feel less afraid, and more capable of overcoming it. And yes after reading this article, I learned that I can relate on certain things with her. My fears have prevented me from forming new relationships given my trust issues they have also given me so much anxiety that at times it becomes irrational when thinking about my future, and my fears do clash with the person Im trying to be and others expect of me. But at the end, fear and unrest can lead to a change in me to become better, and thats a very important thing to have. In conclusion, the article tackles many important sociological points at the micro and macro level that have served the writer not only to alleviate her pains and fear, but to communicate it to whoever is also feeling the same. She got to do it by explaining her own fear to understand it better herself, so later she could apply it to many events in a persons life to accentuate the fact fear can unite people for the best. Because, although history has shown fear has led to discrimination, genocide, culture clashes, fear has also led for people to resist against it and to lead a change instead. Moreover, in my perspective, this article did serve its purpose and on the way it helped me reflect on my own fears, and how they can become my weapon, instead of my weakness. Bibliography Lumen.
